Woodlands certified to PEFC’s sustainable forest management requirements can sell materials as certified.

Timber stored in saw mill’s yard may be segregated to ensure certified material is not mixed with uncertified material.

Timber enters the saw mill under a third party audited chain of custody certification, so the credentials of the sustainable material can be passed on to the next generation.

Certified materials supplied to a manufacturing plant via a “chain of custody” are monitored through the process to enable them to be sold as certified.

The final product may be sold to a retailer or a customer as certified, giving confidence that the product comes from a sustainably managed forest.

All products have been through the chain of custody may carry the PEFC label to show consumer their sustainability credentials.
